On peace and freedom...
I found this in the Atkinson collection -- from Summer Solstice 1958. Druid, Heel Stone and Barbed Wire. Something rather poignant about it........

A few of us on Dennis Price's Eternal Idol blogsite [http://www.eternalidol.com/?p=269] commented on the similarity to an animal shape within the heelstone, and your photo certainly reveals the "simulcra" in my opinion. And a brilliant photograph in every respect. A moment in time.
Who was the l....y American chap who bombarded us all with his notion that the four evangalists were embedded in this stone. Gary someone?. I passed him onto other older Grimme mystics (with a smile)! GCU In two minds.
Speaking of evangalists. Wherever the answer lies, We better get a shift on and find the killer fact. The looney who brought us the "rapture" on May the 21st, has said that he got his sums wrong. We've only got until the 21st of October to solve the problem.
...but if he's that bad at mathematics, what chance of him being right this time round?
I think the killer facts lie on Salisbury Plain -- we need to mount a major expedition, maybe with the support of the RGS and Mount Everest Foundation. Not for wimps. It will be dangerous -- some of the exploration will be within a War Zone.
Still think we ought to get the Army bods involved, led by someone such as Roy Canham, M.B.E., based in Bradford-On-Avon, who leads one of the Salisbury Plain Conservation Groups (Imber) and is the retired Wiltshire County Archaeologist. I am convinced that the Conservation Groups should be given the task of looking for traces of dolerite and rhyolite, etc. It's amazing what a crack Volunteer Force can accomplish, provided they are fed and watered and offered loads of cash incentives. Well, they ought to have major cash incentives to wander freely on the Army Training Ground!
Good point, I'll bring my climbing gear, some of the slopes above Warminster are a bit steep. I shall go through the junk in my parents loft and try and find my catapult and air rifle. I may even have a plastic viking helmet.
